So it’s Friday. Doesn’t really make any difference to me though. I’ve not got a day off until at least next Tuesday. Still, I’ve noticed that as the evenings are beginning to draw in, and sunset is currently around eight o’clock, silly season on the road is starting. Quite a few cyclists are already riding about with no lights on as the daylight fades.
Even before it’s totally dark, it becomes less easy to see unlit bicycles especially when they’re in the shadow of passing vehicles, and with the headlights of oncoming cars, trucks and buses making it harder still.
Today the weather is still lovely and warm, but a little cooler than yesterday, topping out in the low 80’s this afternoon. Glorious sunshine for most of the day though, so no complaints there.
It’s going to be a little cooler over the next few days, but it doesn’t look like the end of summer any time soon. You never know in this part of the world, but, after all, we’re still in August, and we could have decent warm weather for at least another month yet.
All in all we’ve had a pretty reasonable summer. Of course, it doesn’t please everyone. We don’t generally have air-conditioning in the home here in England, so it can get a little warm and sticky indoors sometimes, especially at bedtime.
Which brings me to it being that time again really. Had a nice glass of wine after some delicious pork cooked by Kathy, along with some green beans and coleslaw.
It’s time to say good goodnight.
I had a really good night’s sleep for a change. I often have trouble sleeping, and even getting to sleep. Then quite often, I’ll wake up at some ungodly hour and then end up lying there in the dark unable to drop off again for a couple of hours or more. Of course, that can leave me feeling tired and drained the next day, which is no fun if I’ve got work or some errands to do.
I tucked into some yogurt for breakfast, and some chia seed bread and ham. I also made some of that for my sandwiches for work today, adding some sliced tomatoes and coleslaw.
I really enjoy the warm weather we’ve had, but I do find that I’m drinking a lot more water. Of course, that’s no bad thing. I don’t drink soda or any of that ghastly flavored water, and I can’t make tea and coffee most of the time when I’m at work, so I drink two or three bottles of water, that’s three or four pints.
After work today I had another delicious bowl of the chicken bog that Kathy made yesterday as she had made far too much to eat in one sitting!
I also bought some grapes on the way home, and I managed to eat half of them already.
I’ll have a nice cup of rooibus tea to finish off with after I’ve finished this blog post, and then I’ll probably call it a night before much longer.
Woke up this morning to bright sunshine, which was rather lacking yesterday. It was already in the 70’s before I got out of bed, and there was barely a cloud in the sky.
Isn’t that how it always seems to work out when you’ve got to go into work though?
Had a nice cooked breakfast consisting of grilled bacon, fried eggs and fried tomatoes that were fresh from the garden. That was all washed down with a cup of fresh brewed joe.
Got ready and headed into work to start just after one o’clock.
It was quite uneventful except I was late getting a break, and I missed the staff canteen where I had planned on eating this afternoon, as it closes at five o’clock.
I thought this would be a good opportunity to try the new Caribbean store just near the bus garage.
I dropped in to ‘Jerk Vibes’ and after taking a quick look at the menu I decided on some Jerk Chicken and red rice. It cost six pounds and there was a decent amount of it. It was quite tasty, but perhaps the sauce was a bit more like barbecue sauce than it was authentic jerk.
I will go back there again though, and try some more of the menu.
When I got home Kathy had made chicken and rice, and that was tasty too. It kind of reminded me of chicken bog which is something I really enjoy. I finished off with some fruit, and called it a night.
